Building community through dance.

Since 2023, I have been organizing square dances throughout Whatcom and Skagit Counties. Bringing people together over a shared meal, live music, and square dance has become one of my greatest joys.

How it started

My inspiration came from an evening on Lopez Island. There, I attended a potluck and square dance, sharing food with lovely people, and smiling, dancing, and laughing until my face was sore. The next morning, the dance caller invited us to her house for breakfast with a small group from the dance. Again, we shared food and even had a little living room jam.

When people began gathering again after COVID, I decided to try to recreate that for my own community. In November 2023, I put on the first community potluck and square dance at the Edison Granary. More than 80 people showed up. We shared food and drinks, danced, and laughed. It felt like Lopez Island all over again and motivated me to continue organizing.
